Firstly I thought that these cakes were like pumpkin cakes or cheesecakes, but it wasn’t the case at all. These delicious cakes are made from coconut.
It’s prepared/baked in a banana leave which also gives a particular taste to this sweet Thai snack, appreciated by almost everyone.
I used to taste this from the cooking lady, who took care of me and other volunteers while being in Chiang Mai. She made it with grapes instead of coconut, so I was positively surprised when I tasted this version.
If you find this during a walk or while visiting a local market, please just buy it and eat it. You won’t be dissapointed by the taste. Yes, it’s sweet but with a bottle of water in the other hand it will maybe help you to appreciate it even more (for me it helped).
The texture of the snack is just amazing. You know, sometimes you eat a dry cake or sometimes a cake that was not long enough in the oven, but this one is undescribable. Everything is in perfect harmony.
‘Aroy mah’ = It’s good, it’s delicious in Thai language
